  • Having jpg crop/zoom issues AND .vob playback issues in Vegas 11 64bit

Having some issues here. I just downloaded the latest Vegas 11 build (521) hoping that the issues I was experiencing would go away – NOPE.

    PROBLEM 1:
Is there anyone else experiencing problems when trying to do a digital pan/zoom on a jpg file? The strange thing is, when I drag a jpg onto the timeline and zoom in and pan/rotate and do whatever in the default crop window no problemo. But when I change the crop window to a 16×9 size and go to pan in and zoom the jpg just totally starts WIGGING OUT. It stretches this way and that, shows parts of the photo I’m not even zoomed in on, becomes pixelated etc. It’s ridiculous.

MY (time consuming) FIX: It’s a hassle, but it works. Any picture I decide I want to zoom in on or mess with in any way, I have to take it into Photoshop and save it as a psd. Works just fine. I can do whatever I want. But what a pain in the arse. Never had to do that before and it’s honestly unacceptable. I just re-opened an old Vegas 10 project in Vegas 11 that had some jpgs with digital zooms and crops and they are MANGLED. It jitters this way and that as it zooms across the image.

    PROBLEM 2:
In that same Vegas 10 file, I was also using some clips from a DVD which played back just fine in the older version, but now everything jumps around and acts all skippy and whatnot. Now I’ll admit that this is probably a copyright protected DVD, but why the heck would it work in 10 and not 11? I have tried playing back vob files from other DVDs that I know aren’t protected and they work fine it seems like. So I’m guessing that’s just something I’m going to have to live with from now on. Maybe they got in trouble for allowing playback of copyrighted stuff in their previous versions.

    Other problems
Vegas 11 crashes a decent amount too. That blows! I just got a ridiculous new computer and was looking forward to blazing through footage with some GPU acceleration, my 24 cores, my Quadro 5000 card, my speed raid drives etc. All these problems are seriously making me crazy. I guess I’m going to have to find a Vegas 10 and reinstall it as a backup option for these sorts of things. Or just start using Premiere. I have a Scarlet that is going to be showing up any day now and the thought of becoming a Premiere guy after being with Vegas since 2000 back in the ye olde Sonic Foundary days makes me cringe, but I gotta do what I gotta do.

I guess this was more of a vent than a question, but if anyone has any sorts of answers lay em on me. THANKIES!

I have a similar issue I have reported to Sony support. I take a single jpg and put it on the timeline. Now use the Pan Crop tool to crop the photo and then right click and flip it horizontally. The image, depending on how much I cropped will shift upward and to the right (sometimes it shifts so much it does not show in the preview). If I go to Options and turn off GPU video processing, then it behaves as expected.

I don’t really need to flip the picture, but this was a simple way for me to reproduce the problem with the Pan Crop tool with GPU acceleration turned on.

Using the NVidia GTX 570 290.53 driver and SVP 11 64 bit build 521. The crashes with SVP 11 have dropped drastically when I started using the beta NVidia drivers.

FYI…I just installed the Intel OpenCL SDK and tried having SVP 11 use that instead of the Nvidia GTX 570 GPU. I get the same results with the Pan Crop tool, so it does not look like a Nvidia OpenCL issue.

Here’s a reply direct from Sony on the Sony Vegas forum about this issue.

We have reproduced the Pan/Crop rotation error and are working to address it in a forthcoming update.
Please note that Build 521 is intended to fix only the short list of bugs mentioned in the release notes, however we will be releasing another update in the near future, which will resolve more of these issues.

Ok great! That’s awesome that they know about it and are gonna fix it. I really was about to jump Vegas ship after 11 or 12 years.
