  • Having chapter points in a looped-play DVD…

Posted by Jerry Neal on August 27, 2007 at 4:09 am

I have a DVD that I’m producing for a trade show. It will be looped for continuous playback. However, I also wanted to add chapter points where they can skip to a certain area on the DVD with the remote control. I rendered my video with the markers in place, but for some reason when I put the finished DVD into the player it won’t skip to these points. It will only act on the Loop and start over at the beginning. Is there any way to have both looped playback and markers to be used with the remote?

    Thanks

Don’t know if I really have an answer for you but while you can set the authoring program up to make a looping DVD, the looping can also be done by the DVD player itself. Most have a setting that will let a DVD loop. That way you can do the chapter points with the program and the looping with the DVD setting.

When you rendered out of Vegas using MPEG2 (DVDA Template) did you make sure the box was checked at the bottom that says to render with chapter markers?

You can also access the video in DVDA and add chapter markers to the video there as well (if you don’t have time to re-render in Vegas).

I’m assuming (to do the looping DVD) you have the “End Action” of the video in DVDA set to itself.

There is NO reason I can see that chapter points should not work on a DVD that loops (in fact, I’ve made one that does this) UNLESS you’ve made the move your “menu” and the menu is looping.

Make a “Single Movie” dvd, pick that video when asked, and set it to loop back to itself as its end action. The chapter points should then work as well.

I’m not sure if I’m on the right track here but I did something like this once and what I did was to have each chapter as a seperate ‘movie’ Then I had the choice to loop each seperate video. This was, however, in my multimedia program and not in DVDA. I then added a button to “exit-Loop” or a “play-through”

I wonder if you couldn’t do something like that in DVDA?
