Having big issues with rendering to .mov from Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0

Why do you need to use QuickTime? What is driving this decision?

I would render to MPEG4 using Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC. This can also be read by QuickTime on any platform. The Internet templates under Sony AVC will give very high quality at low bit-rates.

If you must use QuickTime then you’re going to need to create your own template because the default templates are not that great (as you have seen).

The video is for a pitch and the organizer only accepts .mov files which are not bigger then 30MB. I managed to export to wmv and then use an external converter to convert it into .mov

Not the best solution though :/

That may have compromised the quality by converting to a lossy format like WMV and then again to MOV. In the future, you can just use Sony AVC and rename the .mp4 to .mov and QuickTime will play it (even on a Mac).

I too note that mov doesn’t render above 3 Mbps. But these days when I render to MP4, Youtube tells me to change it to mov? SO how to get Movie Studio Platinum 12 to render movs to a reasonable 1920×1080 format?

Render to mp4 like oyu always do and then just change the extension from .mp4 to .mov
I’ve done this numerous times and no one has caught on yet 🙂

HI!! I NEED HELP!! I HAVE SONY MOVIE STUDIO 13, and Im creating a tv show for a local network, and they require me to render the video in .MOV file, 720×480 h. 264, and I just cant seem to find these options, under the MAKE MOVIE. I select MOV file, but the preset is like 620×480 or 680×480 I don’t recall, but I need 720×480, and also when I go into CUSTOMIZE, it only has 5 options and they are really low settings, like 256 MPhs, or something like taht, and under those settings, i can see h.263 but not h.264 and when i render with h.263 its really but really distortioned, it look bad.

IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN RENDER .MOV, 720×480, h.264 in SONY MOVIE STUDIO..

please help, thank you so much.

No, but here’s what you can do:

1. Select Make Movie | Save it my hard drive | MP4
2. Press the Advanced options… button
3. Select Sony AVC/MVC on the left
4. Select Memory Stick SD NTSC – 6256 Kbps or Memory Stick SD NTSC widescreen – 6256 Kbps depending on of your program is widescreen or not.
5. Press Render

When the render is complete, rename the .MP4 file to .MOV and send it to the local network.

I was using the MP4 file for a while, as you suggested, but now the network is asking for .mov files, because according to them the .MP4 takes a while to render through their system. I suggested to change the .mp4 to .mov but they declined it.

Do you know what is the best setting that will match .MOV, 720×480, h.264, in movie studio 13 platinum?

When rendering when I go into MOV, I select:

QUICKTIME 7, 3mbps video, then customize the template: Under Frame size I have several options! Which one do I choose?

Also all of them put a black header on the top and bottom of the video, as if it reduces the size of the video making it look like a film, is it possible to take that away!!

You didn’t follow my instructions. YOU were supposed to rename the MP4 file to MOV before you sent it to them so that they wouldn’t know. Now they’ll be look out for this.

There is none. Movie Studio is incapable of rendering a QuickTime H.264 file.

You will need to render to another format and then purchase QuickTime Pro from Apple and use that to convert the file to H.264 MOV.

That’s because your project aspect is probably 16:9 and you’re rendering to 4:3. Are you allowed to send them widescreen video? If so you want to change the Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of your rendered file to 1.2121. If you can’t do that in QuickTime Pro, then render it to 873×480 PAR 1.0 and it will be widescreen.
