Have I done something wrong?
Posted by Jay Stallworth on October 8, 2005 at 9:31 pmHello all,
I have a FCP 4.0 system witch was upgrade to FCP 4.5 a couple of years back. Just recently I was cutting some video and I could render anything, no Video, no transition nothing. When I tried to export to Quick Time the program gave me a message saying “General error”. Can any one help me out?

October 8, 2005 at 11:58 pmDid you update to Quicktime 7? If so, you need to drop back to QT 6.5.2 (or whatever the last 6.5 version is.) FCP 4.5 can’t run with QT 7.

October 9, 2005 at 1:39 amI ran mine with QT 7, 4.5 and 10.3.9 all summer. ?? Didn’t I? I swear I did. Then I upgraded to FCP 5 and it was a smooth upgrade cuz I’d done QT first. Yeah. That was it. 7 works with 4.5.

But not reliably, especially with OS 10.3. In fact, there is a Quicktime 6.5.2 reverter on the Apple site for OS 10.3.9. This was due to the overwhelming issues that cropped up with 10.3.9 and FCP 4.5 after the Quicktime updater installed QT 7.0 on a lot of machines running FCP 4.5

October 9, 2005 at 5:15 pmThank you for responding to my post.
I have never updated my Quick Time, I still have QT 6.5.2.
Are you telling me that I should uninstall QT 6.5.2, and then reinstall it again. Or should I uninstall FCP and then reinstall it.

October 9, 2005 at 6:02 pmNo, if you haven’t updated to QT 7, no need to re-intall QT 6.
Maybe just trash the prefs and repair disk permissions to start with.
