have a mask anim – want text to scroll down it without having to re-keyframe
I’ve got a simple 3 point mask a-b-c ..it forms a simple L shape mask
I’m using the render/stroke command to paint a stroke down it.
I now want to animate some text travelling along the line but staying horizontal as opposed to following the line.
I need to be able to keyframe the L shape mask and have the text dynamically update to the mask shape as it scrolls down the mask. Is this possible?
It sounds impossible – I was hoping digital anarchy might help me out but I keep getting invalid parameters when I use the path option in their plugins 🙁

Should be simple enough:
- Just create a text-layer
- Creat your three point mask
- Set Text → Path Options → Path: to your Mask
- Set Text → Path Options → Perpendicular to Path: to Off
That should keep the letters upright. - depending on your situation, you can also set Force Alignment to On, or use plenty of tracking to keep the letters spaced apart.
- Animate your mask
- Animate the First MArgin / Last Margin parameters to get the text to scroll along the path.
If you have Force Alignment On, you’ll have to use both at the same time. - Set the stroke effect directly on the text-layer
- You might need some base-line shift to give some distance between letters and line.
