  • Has anyone solved the 3 monitors issue yet?

I still cannot find anyone who has solved this issue. Currently I’m running an early 8-core with a 1900XT and a 2600XT. I am running two dell 24″ LCD’s off the 1900XT, and I was running a 42″ Sharp 1080p LCD off the 2600XT. The problem came when I went to render and I got the usual red screen telling me that I was unable to render. As others have found, I unhooked the LCD and voila, it rendered again. Now I’m stuck trying to figure out how to display on my 42″ LCD. Would something like a Blackmagic Intensity card work in my situation? Am I stuck until Apple updates FCP6 and fixes this issue?

Capture card would be the best bet. Having two graphics cards, when FCP utilizes graphics cards for many filters and effects (FX Plug) causes issues with FCP. I would never recommend two graphics cards. Capture card is always the best way to get another image onto you external client monitor.

BUT…there is another solution. I am using the Matrox TripleHead2Go thingamajiggy that takes ONE DVI connection, expand the image so it spans two monitors…or even three. But I use two. So instead of 1920×1200 the resolution is 3840×1200. Then I have the other DVI port available for another monitor, or my MXO. Currently using that for my Avid setup. Working well.

Hmm. That’s not a bad idea. I am considering also, changing from my dual 24’s to a single 30″ 2560×1600 display and driving both that and the 42″ LCD.

    Mike,

I run 2 x 23″ Apple Cinema Displays and a Sony 40″ via HDMI through a Blackmagic Eclipse in one suite and 3 x 23″ ACD’s using the additional DVI port on a Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme in another. Both work very well. Not the cheap solution but I agree with Shane that a capture card is your best option and I think will prove much more useful in the long run.

Yeah I may look into the Blackmagic Intensity instead. Does a card like that or a capture card only allow me to use it in FCP or does it let me extend my desktop space also?

I’m think that your “42” Sharp 1080p LCD” deserves something better, but for an auxiliary third monitor some body pointed this cheap solution:

Rafael has a good suggestion here.

Mike if your primary need is just for an extended desktop this is a far more economical solution. But if you are looking for reliable video monitoring using your Plasma then Blackmagic will deliver.

Can only speak to my situation: my system in use my way but… with that caveat… I drive three HD monitors with no problems yet. 30″ Samsung and 2X Apple. 30″ and 23″. I am using 2 NVIDIA 8800GT boards. System consists of early 2008 Mac Pro, 16GB RAM, G-Speed es RAID, and Final Cut studio with latest software upgrades (OS 10.5.6 and FCP 6.0.5). Just completed a second project in XDCAM ex 1080i 60 with mucho effects. Simultaneously utilized FCP, Motion, Livetype, iPhoto, Photoshop Elements, etc., etc. with no problems whatsoever. No other PCi boards other than the one driving the G-speed es.

Again.. ONLY speaking for my particular configuration and circumstance.
