Has anyone experienced this problem? Causes?

On some projects when I copy media from one timeline to another the transitions between clips are changed. The transition no longer spans the end of the 1st clip and the beginning of the 2nd clip. Instead the transition ends at the end of the first and there is a space of 1/2 a frame between the two clips. Ripple delete does work on the empty space and the 1st or 2nd clip will need to be trimmed several frames in order to get rid of the empty space on the timeline. This has happened when working with mpeg2 and avis (not combined and in XP 32 and now in Vista 64). Its like the framerate of the new sequences that I am copying into are different except it does not happen with each clip and properties display the frame rates as identical.
