I just jot a new Mac intel laptop and put AE CS3 in it. Some kind of Adobe updater came on and told me there were updates waiting. It updated to AE 8.0.2. Now when I launch the app, I get this:

After Effects warning: Aproblem occured when processing OpenGL commands.

I click okay and everything sems okay, but I haven’t pushed the software yet.

    Should I be worried?

    Thanks.

So, I did some research over the weekend. Adobe had a nice article on their site. When I remove the OpenGL plug-in to the desktop and re-launch AE the warning goes away. I guess the video card in my MacBook isn’t powerful or awesome enough to deal with the OpenGL stuff. Am I doomed?

Can the video card be replaced in a MacBook? I’d consider throwing an nvidia card in there to make it better if needed.

Why oh why did I try and save money by buying a MacBook instead of a MacBook Pro?!?

    Seriously, am I doomed?

    Thanks.

i wouldn’t say doomed, more like fortunate… now you won’t be tempted to mess around with ae’s less than stellar implementation of opengl rending… it’s not full featured and it’s rather flakey.

you can probably place the opengl plugin back where it came from (if you wanted), but in the preview preference, uncheck the option to use opengl acceleration and set preview acceleration to adaptive resolution.

while you are in the preferences, and since i believe you have 2 cores… if you also have around 2gb of ram, you might go to the multiprocessing pref and enable the ‘render multiple frames simultaneously’ option. once enabled ae will launch a render engine for each available processing core and allow it to use as much as 2gb of ram for each core (i think the minimum is 512kb but 1gb is recommended).

as a bonus, since you have opengl disabled for previews, ae will now use multiprocessing to render previews too.

That’s some great info. I have 4 GB of RAM, so I’m excited to start using both cores to the fullest!

    Thanks.
