I did some routine computer maintenance on my desktop using main menu recently and now when I have external harddrives plugged in the icon does not show up on desktop. The drives show up on the disk utility but not on the desktop. Is there something simple I am missing with my display preferences? The computer I am on is an older power PC dual core 2.0 running tiger. Any suggestions?

    Finder Preferences.
General tab. Show these items on the desktop…

    That’s what’s missing.

    Lawrence,

I’m sure Jeff’s solution will work, although I’ve never had a chance to try it.

However another workaround I’ve used on occasions is to switch to another space (assuming you’ve got spaces enabled), and get the icon back that way.
