  Hardcoding subtitles?

  I’m now working on a project where I have to hardcode subtitles to a documentary. So if I use a program like Subtitle Workshop 4 how do I render them in the video itself?
  Also is there some prefferred format like *.srt or *.sub for this?
  Then there’s the fact that I’ve been demoded into using Premiere Pro 2 workstation so is there any issues I should know about this older version?
