    Hi,

I understand that the Xena 2k will do 4:4:4 uncompressed HD. That obviously would require quite a high-performing RAID setup.

What I’m wondering about is how “powerful/fast” of a hard drive system must I have to record and play moderately compressed 1920x1080i footage?

Will a simple internal SAS drive do the trick, or is an external RAID always required?

This Thursday at NAB, I plan to ask around at the AJA booth, but I thought I would post a quick question here, first. Hopefully the responses here will help me to be more knowledgeable when I have a chance to talk to the AJA reps.

    Thanks,
    Tim

well…I’ll be in the AJA booth…so I guess I could answer some questions there…

I think the challenge to answering your question is that “moderately compressed” means lots of different things to different people. DVCProHD is “moderately” compressed next to HDV, but it’s pretty aggressively compressed next to HDcamSR…

A particular codec has a datarate…that would make it easier to answer the question.
