Hello, i’m sure this has been answered but i can’t find it. I’ve heard it is best to have an external hard drive and use that to store all of your media you are using to create the video and use the computer HD to run the software. My question is, where do i render the file to? is it faster to render the file to my portable HD or the built in HD?

In general, are all portable 5200 HD w/ 800 FW connections created equal? I have one HD that plugs in and it seems to run faster than the portable one even though they both are 5200 w/ 800 FW. what other stats do i look for on a HD to see if it is fast or not?

The render files go in the events and projects folders on the separate drive.

What size drive? Full size or laptop drive? Laptop drive can be 5400. Full size drive should be 7200. 8MB cache, but I think everything has better than that now. All drives are not equal. Some are more prone to failure than others.

    All the best,

    Tom
