I am trying to import video files which are a MOD file from a JVC Hard Drive Video Camera.

I am trying to import them into Vegas and Vegas keeps crashing. Any ideas and/or suggestions?

It is not just one particular file, sometimes it imports them and then crashes, sometimes it crashes when I am trying to import.

Strange, I searched on .mod files and found people saying to rename the files since they are really just mpeg2 format. It may be as simple as renaming the files as .mpeg instead of .mod, although I didn’t think Vegas cared about the extension. It almost sounds like the situation of importing too many Canon 5D .mov files in Vegas 8 which would cause it to crash, but a couple of files was OK. Vegas 10 will accept my files now. What version are you using? Maybe try v10?

Is there a difference between a MOV and a MOD file?
    Not sure.
I am using Vegas 8.0 Yes, I guess I can upgrade.

I have read that you need to convert MOD files to AVI files to make it work which requires purchasing an upgrade software.

Everytime I feel confident that I know what I am doing, I get another wrench thrown at me!

Linda, make sure you’re running the latest version of Pro 8 which was 8.0c.
I’ve had to deal with .mod files before and never had any problems once I learned not to try and drop a whole bunch on the timeline at one time.
Do them individually or a maximum of 5 at a time and you should be OK.
Save each time you successfully drop a few on and you should be OK.
In previous versions, I did rename them from .mod to .mpg and, once again, had no problems.
