I am looking for a hard drive or desktop hard drive to back up my videos. I use a rugged external drive but need to transfer it for backup. What do you recommend, and what is your experience of using them? I am looking into 10TB or more.

I’ve used a variety of external drives from the vendor OWC. I started with a single Firewire drive. Now I’m using their 4-drive enclosure with Thunderbolt. You can populate it with one drive to start or up to four.

OWC is a reliable brand. And depending on your needs, you could save a little money getting less expensive, slower drives. Our systems backup at 2am every night, they are all doing appended backups, and the longest they ever take is about 20 minutes. So speed means nothing to us, thus we got less expensive, slower drives for backups. Just something to keep in mind. Do you need fast backups, or does it matter? Speed costs.

Depends on your computers IO ports.

    Go with the fastest possible.

    RAID for sure.
Since I’m on different setups (2013 Mac Pro, 2019 Mac Pro, and M1 MBP), I use a variety of Thunderbolt 2/4 drives and USB-3/C single drives.

My most reliable single SSD is the OWC Envoy Pro.

As far as RAID, I have a few OWC ThunderBays and Promise Pegasus RAIDs.

External drives are as good as your host CPU.

The killer setup on my 2019 Mac Pro is the internal RAID card with NVMes.

Again depends on what you have.
