Hard drive format question.
HI,
I am archiving a friends 8mm films from the 1950’s. I am a Mac Pro user, (10.5.5 FCP 6), and my friend uses Windows XP.
The films will be archived to high definition. I will then take the HD footage, convert it to DV-NTSC and burn DVD’s for everyday viewing for him and his family members, as well as convert it to smaller HD files in mkv format, for their everyday computer viewing. (None of them have Blu-ray, and I do not have a Blu-ray burner.)
They will convert the footage to Motion JPEG-A format (M-JPEG-A). The hard drive the footage will be transferred to can only be formatted by them as NTFS.
My questions.
1. Will FCP and QT be able to read AND write to this NTFS formatted drive? I’m assuming I will need to install Macfuse and then either NTFS-3G, or Paragon NTFS 6.5 to do this. If so, will either one work? Is one better?
2. Should I do all my conversion work on a Mac formatted drive, and then transfer the finished work back to the (his) NTFS drive?
3. Is there anything else that I’m unaware of that I will need to do/know, to do this?
Any helpful advice is surely appreciated!

I use NTFS for Mac from Paragon Software all of the time. It works very well. The only time I’ve had problems with it is when I had 100,000+ tiff files on the drive. It didn’t like that. But with QT files, never had a problem.
You can just work from the drive if you’re using NTFS for Mac.
