Hard Drive archive shelf case
Posted by Vince Becquiot on May 23, 2008 at 4:51 pmBeen looking around for one of these, and it just seems like you should be able to buy this anywhere right ?
Anyway, if you archive as much as we do, you might need one of these.
A bit overpriced for a piece of plastic ? nahhh

May 24, 2008 at 11:42 pmSorry, the name isn’t on the plastic box. They were just in a large pile at Staples (office supply store) at the start of the school year.

January 19, 2010 at 12:53 amCan the Wiebetech cases take 2.5″ HDD? Are there any alternatives?
There are so many docks out there, you’d expect there to be some more choice. Or is everybody happy with dusty HDDs? -

March 7, 2010 at 5:40 amThought I’d get back and update you on some cases I found.
They’re from a company in Australia, but they shipped quickly and cheaply (we ordered one from Wiebetech, and one from Australia, and the Australian one arrived faster and cost less!)
We compared the cases from Wiebetech and Technology Directions and the Technology Directions case, while similar, seems to have a number of advantages. The most obvious of which, is an insert that mimics the dimensions of a 3.5″ drive, into which you can put 1 or 2 2.5″ drives. That gives us the option of storing all of our drives, no matter their form-factor in a streamlined design. We’re gradually moving from 3.5″ drives to 2.5″ drives (and saving on space and energy costs), so the ability to store both drive sizes is important to us.
But ignoring the multi-drive features, the case from Technology Directions seems to have a more solid feel, and had a better closing mechanism/tab (the Wiebetech case sometimes popped open).
Both cases are designed for drives, so they’re both better than using a VCR / VHS container, and both come with a foam insert and labels. The case from Technology Directions comes without any branding on the case, which was a nice feature too.
Once we decided on the cases from Down Under, we were able to negotiate a discount for the 180 we ordered. We now ship large content on hard-drives to post-production studios in a professional looking case, and we also have a well labelled set of drives, sitting safely in the archives.

March 22, 2010 at 10:37 pmWell, i got those cases from Autralia, and I have to say, it’s junk.
Very thin / flimsy compared to Wiebetech, the 1st one did not open and I ended up breaking the corner, the second one would not close, I stopped opening at that point. The only thing that seems good is that they throw in 2.5 ” cases with foam, but no foam for the actual 3.5″ drives.
Don’t buy.

I am very biased, but take a look at Hudzee.com.
(Full disclosure: I make these. They are my product.)
They may be what you are looking for.
Sincerely,
-Todd
