Im thinking of using a BMCC on a documentary with alot of interview footage – is it possible to record direct to a hard drive and bypass the SSD’s via the Thunderbolt without going via a laptop…

I think you could do this with red’s

Not until someone can update the Blackmagic firmware and create a hard drive that can talk directly to the camera via thunderbolt.

Surely if you purchase 4 512GB SSDs this would give you enough to record and transfer data onto secure storage before blanking the media?

You could also think about purchasing a Nanoflash or Atomos device that would record via HDSDI to a hard drive at 10bit ProRes?

Thanks Tom – I was looking at 4k as an option so the Nanoflash isnt an option.

    Be a FWare update tho….
