HappyOtterScripts Free Tools
Posted by Wayne Waag on January 4, 2020 at 12:08 amOver the past few years, I’ve been writing scripts for both myself and other forum members. I’ve slowly been adding them to the Happy Otter Scripts website at https://tools4vegas.com/. Here is the direct link to the Free Tools library. https://tools4vegas.com/library/ At the moment, it’s kind of a dog’s breakfast of stand-alone apps, script extensions and text scripts that I have written. Anyone visiting the site can freely download any of the tools. Some of the links to Sony versions are “dead” since they have not been recompiled for the previous versions. If you have a need for the Sony version, please contact me.
Comments, bug reports, and suggestions for new tools are always welcome. I’ll update this thread when new tools are added.

February 18, 2020 at 9:41 pmInsert Freeze Frame is a script that inserts a freeze frame into a timeline event without use of Velocity Envelopes. Rather it creates a lossless PNG image, which is then inserted at the desired point. It now supports video with an alpha channel. The option to Auto Ripple now supports All Tracks, Markers, and Regions. Here is the dialog.
and a demo.

February 21, 2020 at 9:57 pmThank you for posting some of your Free Scripts and Extensions for Vegas!
There were just a few of them that I could not click on the “Download Vegas” options for:
Insert Freeze Frame
Invert Regions
Event Remover
Set Alpha
Set Event Length
Trim Frames
Thanks again,

Thanks.

February 22, 2020 at 12:31 amSince I haven’t had any specific requests for Sony versions, converting those scripts has more or less been “on the back burner” of things to do. I’ll try to update them in the coming week.

February 24, 2020 at 9:43 pmAll script extensions in the HOS Free Tools library have now been recompiled for Sony versions of Vegas. Both the Magix and Sony versions are now included in the same download file as well as a tool icon.

February 25, 2020 at 7:02 pmThank you for doing that! I was not expecting you to perform that for a bit. I was just letting you know about them.
Much appreciated!
Thanks,

February 25, 2020 at 7:18 pmNo problem. As I said, it’s been on my “to do” list for quite some time. So yesterday, I wrote a few apps to more or less “automate” the process so that in the future, both versions will be immediately available.

March 4, 2020 at 4:50 pmJust added a new tool, Save and Restore, that enables the user to “save” the cursor position when a project is closed and then “restore” the cursor to that position when the project is re-opened. There is an option to select the amount of “zoom” in terms of how many seconds will be displayed on the timeline. Here’s a shot of the UI and a short demo in an 11 hour project I had used for audio testing.

March 21, 2020 at 5:30 amOver a year ago, I started a thread on the Magix vegas forum at https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/tool-for-measuring-render-quality–114398/?page=1 which described a tool, Render Quality Metrics (RQM) for measuring the quality of renders from Vegas. Admittedly, RQM was pretty “clunky” in that it required the user to render an image sequence of BMPs for both the Original and Rendered files. A new version is available in the Happy Otter Free Tools Library which greatly simplifies and speeds up its use. In addition to Mean Squared Error (MSE) and Power Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), RQM now has an option to compute the Structural Similarity Index Metric (SSIM) although it is very slow. RQM now has two apps, a script that renders the image sequence from Vegas and a standalone app that does the computation.
Rather than render two sets of BMPs, RQM makes use of the track compositing mode in Vegas. The rendered file is placed on the top track and its compositing mode is set to “Difference”. Another difference is that the BMPs are now directly rendered using the DebugMode FrameServer (DMFS) which speeds up rendering. I’ve done testing to make sure that BMPs from DMFS are identical to those produced by Vegas. I’ve also done testing to make sure that the single BMP based on the composite difference in Vegas is the same as the difference from separately rendered BMPs.
There are also options to “speed up” the process by selecting the pixel block size during creation of the BMPs and also an option to select every nth frame during processing. Here are screen grabs of both the script and standalone app.
Here’s a demo.

The new version is titled Vegas Render Quality and can be downloaded at https://tools4vegas.com/library/ The zip file contains both the script and the standalone app.
Comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome.

May 14, 2020 at 1:42 amJust added a new tool, Quantize To Frames, that enables the user to selectively quantize the positions of events, fades, markers, regions, and render loop in/out points to the nearest frame boundary. Such a tool can be useful if one inadvertently fails to restore the Quantize to Frames option (Alt-F8) or is using clips with different frame rates. I should add that the script is partially based on an early javascript written by Randall Campbell of Peach Rock Productions in the early days of Vegas. Here is a screen grab of the UI.
