September 4, 2010 at 2:53 am[Rohit Gupta] “The 285 is much faster than the 4800 as this point of time.”
Interesting. In my testing the seemed about the same.

September 4, 2010 at 3:45 amI put this through some more tests tonight after my last post it does indeed seem that the 285 is offering better performance overall especially when it comes to parallel node chains, blur and mist. My earlier observation about more nodes (serial with simple corrections) before dropping playback frame rate still seems to be accurate with the 4800 vs 285 but when you get into the very intensive stuff 285 does seem to be working better.

September 5, 2010 at 4:13 amResolve, FCP. Adobe PPro, Smoke, Avid. All installed and all work with no conflicts. As far as Color goes, why do you care? Isn’t that’s what Resolve is for?

September 5, 2010 at 5:38 amAren’t there any intrepid beta testers willing to hook up an expansion chassis, thereby proving forever (or not) that we can actually have our cake and eat it too? I’m speaking of course about both Redrocket and a RAID card for starters.
There are about a zillion colorist around the world ready to sing your praises for uncovering that nugget of truth.

September 5, 2010 at 5:48 amAwesome Jake. That is good news indeed. As far as why Color? I’ve got many archived Color projects. And every once in a while, particularly with the features, the producers come back a year later and ask for a minor change to support either a new distribution format or such. So I’d like to know I can open up all those projects if needed.
New work would definitely be in DaVinci.

September 5, 2010 at 8:04 pmI would like to test out this expansion chassis you speak of. Can you forward me a link to the product. Having room to expand sounds very nice indeed..
Best,

September 6, 2010 at 12:52 amHi Darin,
models are available from the following manufacturers:
Magma
Cyclone: https://www.cyclone.com/products/expansion_systems/600-2707.php
OneStopSystems
CubixI haven’t read of anyone testing this out yet. But it seems like a obvious solution to wanting both a Redrocket card and a RAID card.
