Today is the first day of the festival of lights – Diwali or Deepavali – in India. And a long weekend for everyone (except for some in post).

Here’s wishing everyone from India and elsewhere in the world a very Happy Diwali and a New Year as well. I hope and pray that there is peace, happiness, and fewer bugs in our world in the year to come.

    Cheers.

Very cool! I’ll have to look that one up as I’m not familiar with that festival. Thanks for sharing!

The cultural significance is that’s is a festival of the good over evil in mythology.

But we celebrate it by lighting oil-wicker lights at home and bursting fire-crackers. A lot of calories are consumed via some really sinful food. By and large everyone takes a holiday. Schools and colleges have a two week vacation.

Post production generally slows down, but some ‘bad karma’ guys get to work. The fortunate ones wind up work in the days leading up to the festival. I’ve checked out links sent by friends in the US. They seem to celebrate it more traditionally that us in India.

    In Atlanta…

    Happy Diwali Neil,

Certainly lots of firecrackers going on here in the community in Vancouver during Diwali. The very colourful display of sweets in my favorite south asian restaurants is always astounding, but during Diwali the trade in sweets seems particularly brisk.

    Have a good time.
