  • Half of the video appears when imported in Adobe After Effects CS3

Posted by Larry Kramer on August 10, 2013 at 1:34 am

I always make my FX videos using Adobe After Effects CS3, but for some reason, today, when I import videos, only half of the videos appears in the composition.

    Here’s a screenshot:

It has never done that before, and I know it’s not the video file because it is doing it to all the videos. Why is it only showing half of all the videos? Is there a way to fix it?

I see you are using WMV. A recent Microsoft update broke WMV in some apps. You can uninstall KB2803821 to fix the problem. See https://forums.adobe.com/message/5494394#5494394 for more.

It appears that Microsoft has issued the fixed update:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-057

    See the “Update FAQ” section:
“Why was this bulletin revised on August 13, 2013?
Microsoft revised this bulletin to rerelease the 2803821 update for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

The rereleased update addresses an application compatibility issue in which WMV encoded video could fail to properly render during playback. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 customers should install the rereleased update.”
