H4N and Audio-Technica pro 70

Hello Chris and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

Wireless mic system are comprised of a mic, a transmitter and a receiver.

The AT Pro 70, by itself, is a hardwired mic.

You need a transmitter and receiver to make it wireless. Did you buy one that included the transmitter but not a receiver?

In addition, the mic is a directional (cardioid) pattern. This may or may not be helpful to you application. Most lav mics are omnidirectional.

Yes, the zoom is merely a recorder not a receiver as well. Theyre good, but not THAT good.

Ty – I’m sitting here being mezmorized by your guitar playing… In my next phase of life I want to learn how to play the guitar.

I am going to bring the microphone to church today and talk with our sound guys about it and then get back with you about the makeup of the mic.

Tommy Emmanuel is incredible. I’ve listened to a number of albums by him. Don’t forget about Phil Keaggy.

OK… So I talked with the sound guy at church and I only have a microphone. I am getting into photojournalism and would like to record video on my Canon 7D when I am in the field. A wireless mic would come in handy.

Could you recommend an inexpensive wireless mic, transmitter and receiver that would work with my zoom H4N.

The lowest acceptable wireless kit is the Sennheiser G3, available in several configs.

Top of the heap sound-wise and range wise is the Audio Ltd. 2040; about $4500

Lectrosonics and Zaxcom come in next

up market Sennheiser, and Sony

I feel that some cautionary advice is needed here:

DO NOT GET CHEAP WIRELESS SYSTEMS

You get what you pay for with wireless and the cheap ones will not have the features or the flexibility you need for future location shoots. Spend the money now for a system that you will NEVER regret having bought. A cheap wireless system will not be hardly as reliable as a more expensive one; both require just about the same amount of setup and pampering. Do it right the first time.
