Is there an image quality difference between H264 and H265?
With everything else stays the same, and exporting an 1080p clip

Yes…tons. H.265 is tons better than H.264. Better compression.

Yup. It’s newer, and has better compression, looks nicer.

I’m an editor, not a video technician. But the compression algorithms are better. close to the same file sizes as H.264, meaning might hover right in the same range…but the image is sharper and cleaner. I can’t pull out a chalk board and point out all the technical reasons…I’m sure if you google you can figure that out…

At this time, H.265 is not supported by either website, as far as I know. it’s very new.

H265 is more advanced and can cut bitrate needs down by half compared to H264. This also means that it’ll take a bit longer to export in H265 compared to H264.

If you’re looking for maximum quality for YouTube, you can use VP9 which is of similar quality to H.265 and you can actually upload it. YouTube videos are converted to VP9 by default anyway. PP doesn’t support VP9 without a plugin though, there’s one called “WebM for Premiere” that will do the job.

Would using VP9 fix that problem I, and a lot of others, have with youtube adding a reddish cast to skin tones?
