    I thought I’d try to render right out of AE to the H264 codec and the results were pretty awful. So I rendered an aimation clip and then made the H264 out of QT player and it was way better. Seems H264 really relies on before and after frames.

    Also, if you want the best encode use the multi-pass…looks very good and noticably better than the one pass.

    I’n not sure what’s going on but I can confirm that H264 from AFX is not as good. I move my files to a Mac and use Compressor 2.

    On the Mac with Compressor H264 uses 2 passes and VBR resulting in a cleaner file with few artifacts. Perhaps AT does the same thing.
