h.264 in vegas 8

Vegas Pro 8 can handle AVC/H.264 fine, it depends on the container. What file extension does the file have?

it is a .mov.

In order to open MOV you need to install QUICKTIME (free download)

If you have the latest Quicktime installed then that’s your problem. You need to downgrade to Quicktime 7.6.2 to be compatible with Vegas Pro 8 or upgrade to Vegas Pro 10 to use the latest Quicktime.

Uninstall the version you have and then go here and download QuickTime 7.6.2 and install it.
