    Hey Guys,

I’m trying to compress some stuff down to h.264 – 320X240 – Medium resolution. The files I’m getting on my computer seem really big (5 minutes = 78 megs). I tried compressing the same source file on a co-workers system and it compressed at 40 megs. I have Quicktime Pro 7.6 and have installed all the latest updates. Any idea why I’m running into this? Also, how big should a standard h.264 file be? Even the 40MB seems a little large to me…

    Thanks!

Turn down the quality/bit rate, turn down your audio quality or use a different audio compression scheme.

I tried that, but when using the exact same settings on my computer and my co-worker’s, I got two dramatically different file sizes…

Don’t know what to tell you except that the settings must not match like you thought.

40-80 Megs is not that big, especially for a 5 minute piece.

5 minutes of ProRes SD is about 2GBs, getting that down to 40-80MBs is nothing short of amazing.

If you need to send something to a client in an ’emailable’ form, consider sending it via yousendit.com or something similar. They have free options.

What is your workflow? What program are you compressing through? You’ll get the best results if you go through Compressor.
