  • H264 Export Problem in Final Cut and Avid

    Hello everyone,

Just to get it out of the way, heres what my system specs are:

    Mac Pro
    2×2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    14GB memory
    Running OS 10.6.7

    Final Cut 7.0.3
    Avid Symphony 5.5.2

While I’m using either of these programs to export various types of timelines and formats, it is not allowing me to export in either program H264 files. They both give me a general error.

I’ve tried trashing the Final Cut Pro Pref and Avid Support has so far logged it as a bug.

My only assumption is that there is some corruption in the H264 codec installed on my Mac Pro. Is there a way to go about reinstalling that codec?

    Any help is always appreciated!

    Thanks

    Andrew

It’s more likely you have corrupt media or unsupported media… Render files can be corrupt and cause this behavior I know.

Normally I would agree with you, however, I’ve tried both systems with multiple form of data, even recapturing and attempting new exports with raw footage. I’ve also taken some of the same data that wouldn’t export on the Mac Pro, and am able to export it on our Macbook Pro (as the capture scratch is on a shared volume).

It’s only occurring with the H264 codec. I am able to export any other codec, so I have the option to export and use Compressor, which I don’t usually mind, only we sometimes rent out our systems and need everything to be in working order so the clients can use whichever workflow they like/

    Hi Andrew,

Did you have any luck finding a solution to this problem? I’m having the same problem (machine specs are almost identical to yours) which is occurring across all projects, so it’s not a media issue – exporting to any other codec is without issue; only h264 produces the error message.

As you say, it’s more of an incovenience in the workaround rather than a massive problem, but it would still be great to know why it’s happening and hopefully fix it.

    Thanks,
    Kyra
