GY-HC500 : Gain vs ISO
Aloha all!
So, playing around with my new JVC camera. It has the typical LMH switch for gain. In the menu, you can assign values from -6db to +24dB, in 3dB steps. So, 11 steps spanning 11 stops of adjustment.
You can also switch the camera to measuring in ISO instead of DP. In which case, the values go from 400 to 12,800 in 1/3 stop steps. So, 16 steps spanning 6 stops.
How does this remotely make sense? Why is the variability so limited by changing the scale?
The toggle to switch between the two is located in the viewfinder menu, so it’s a change in display, not a change in function. Can anyone help me understand this?
Mahalo!
