Guys help me out I am New to the Mac World. HELP!
Hi All,
I just spent alot of money and ordered a brand new g5 2.7. It is so new that I have not even opened it from the box.
I have been running my buisness on PC’s. I am Freakin Out Right Now! Should I send my system back and either get a good used computer or just leave Apple altogether. I saw Final Cut Pro at NAB and saw that it was Amazing. Way better then AVID.
What is the Upgrade for apples. PC upgrades are nice because you do not have to buy new computers but rather build your computer. Can I do the same with MAC. Will I just be able to have someone take the (new) proccers out that I have now in to Years and put in the new ones. Is this even possible.
I just left Pinnacle because they were bought by AVID. Everybody told me how strong Apple was so I decided to go with apple and final cut pro because it is amazingly cheaper then avid.
What should I do.

you generally don’t replace internal parts on the Mac to upgrade. Generally the overall speed and stability of the system are designed with all the parts working together. Replace a processor and you could just end up with a very unstable system.
I replace entire computers. The only things I swap out are the PCI cards.

You should use your G5 and be happy with it. By the time Intel chips come to Pro Mac computers it will be 2007. I would certaily think you’d want to be replacing your compuer by then no matter WHAT.
At that time, buy whatever’s new and sell your G5. You’ll still be able to get money for it, I’m sure, because it will still be a good machine for anyone who’s not a pro user.
You don’t have to take my advice, but you should know I’m basing it on my own plans, so I do believe in it.

Depends on what you’re doing. I have a G4 Dual 533 from three years ago still working fine with graphics and internet work. I have two G5 Dual 2.0’s running right now in production and those won’t be upgraded until some serious new machines come out.
If you feel you need a new machine next year, then yes, you’ll need to purchase a new machine.

Working on a brandnew Dual 2.7 as well.
Thought it would last a year or 15 months until it is time for a new mac anyway.
We all have to upgrade to FinalCut 6 next year and I’m sure there will be an upgrade path for existing users. So I don’t care that much and continue working.
You can learn the applications (’cause it will take some time getting familiar) and relax.Greetings

No offense.. But, Hardware companies depend on people like yourself that are constantly waiting for the “next thing” around the corner.
Never mind that the technology doesn’t exist yet, or it’s all pie-in-the-sky with marketing, and hype.. It doesn’t stop people from trying to be the first on the block to have the latest..
I have a friend just like that, and I’ve gone years and years on his so called, hand me downs. Some of my friends are so bad about trying to get the “next greatest” thing, that I haven’t bought a new computer in years. I’m good to go with hand me downs..
So, be my guess.. I’ll take that new G5 that you have in the box there!!!
