Is there an effect that I can use to create a grundgy/edgy/crunchy kind of look in After Effects?
Sort of like what they are doing for MTV, and that kind of look that’s targeted towards kids (16-17 yrs old)
Also sort like the blobs of paint?
I hope I am clear of what I am looking for
    Thanks so much!

An incredibly easy way to get a grunge look is luma track mattes. I’ve been using them with text lately and they turn out looking great and are incredibly easy. Just get (or make) yourself some grungy pics and set them as your track matte for whatever layer you want to grunge up. Playing around with levels on the image can do some pretty cool stuff too.

Something I just found last night is Illustrator CS2 has ink blot scatter brushes, which will be sweet to mess with. Combining those with liquify is alot of fun by the way.

A lot of that stuff is sampled from real life. People shoot images of their own paint splatter, ink spills, crunched up paper etc and use them as track mattes.

A quick solution for edges is to use the ‘Roughen Edges’ effect in AE.

You can get great grunge pictures from the stock exchange.

    Search for ink.
