This is a commonly used method – but for some reason I can’t figure this out. Lets imagine a flag pole growing out of the ground. I can animate this but for some reason i can’t “lock” one end/cap of the cylinder to remain stationary while I “grow” the other end/cap. I always see some movement on the end I want to stay stationary, or I have to hide the other half of it. I know it’s possible to have something do this, I just can’t figure this out. I would greatly appreciate your patience with my elementary question.
    thanks in advance!

Primitive objects alway have their axes centered, so you have to use another method. One way is to animate the growth of a sweep nurbs object. Another way would be to make a cylinder editable, move the axis to the bottom, and animate the object’s scale. When animating scale you have to use the object tool rather than the default model tool.

Thank you so much – the problem I had before was making it editable, moving the modeling axis to the bottom and then animating the object’s scale.. using that method caused the end of the object I wanted to remain stationary to still move slightly (driving me nuts lol). I wasn’t sure why I couldn’t force that one end of the object to remain “locked” in place while stretching the other side. So using the Sweep option allows me to do exactly what I need to do. Thanks again.

Glad I could help. Sounds like your axis wasn’t exactly at the object’s bottom. For future reference, there’s an “axis center” tool in the structure menu that let’s you place the object precisely.
