  • Grouping Clips For Multicam Show???

    Hi,

I have spent several hours this weekend teaching myself FCP for a new show I will soon begin posting. I come from a strong Avid background, so I bought the book “Final Cut Pro for Avid Editors” and I feel very comfortable with the toolset now. Well, except for the newly implemented grouping feature now found in versions 5+.

I only have FCP version 4 here at my house so I have not been able to tinker with the grouping feature myself and my books are a bit out of date. There is no mention of grouping anywhere.

I’m looking for a grouping tutorial or just a pdf on how it works. I’m very familiar with the way Avid does it, but I’m not sure if FCP deals with it the same way. Do you have to be in grouping mode to edit? Do you isolate the clips in their own bin? Etc. etc?

The show is taped with T.O.D timecodes.

I’m almost certain the assistant will have the show grouped and ready to roll before I walk in the door, but I want to cover my a$$ just in case.

Any guidance on the topic would be great. Thanks.

and stop calling them groups. In FCP they are multiclips 🙂

Having worked with AVID multicam for years and now FCP’s
version of it, you will not be disappointed. It works pretty good,
but different. In some ways much faster, some ways
not so much. But it’s only version 1 for multicam.
It’s not bad now but it will get better.
For the price, you can’t beat what Apple has done.

Check out Ripple Training’s tutorial on Multicam Editing. This will give you a visual reference.

How come web addresses aren’t clickable in this forum?
Is there a different kind of format to posting them?
