  • Group many adjustment-layers to one preset

    Hi,

I made a Film Look I really like and which behaves exactly how I want it to on nearly all szenes or light situations.
It’s a mixture of different plug-ins and many other adjustment layers (Glow, Mist, Shadow & Hightlight, Sharpening, Grain, PostContrast, Vignette, Curves, Blur etc).

Now I would like to group all this adjustment-layers to one preset like for example the Video CoPilot Film Looks which you can drag and drop into your timeline.
I know how to make animation presets for ONE layer but what if I use many layers to achieve my look?

If you are interested in my “look”, I can upload some examples.

    I really appreciate your help
    thanks

the problem you will run into is that a preset can’t create multiple layers and apply effects to them… presets can only apply a group of effects and settings to a single layer.

you would need to create a script to create the layers and apply the effects and settings. i don’t know too much about scripts, just that they are more difficult than presets and expressions. but if you have some knowledge of java, you may be able to build a script fairly easily.

i can point you to dan ebbert’s motionscript.com, which is a great resource for learning expressions and scripting for after effects.

My recommendation would be creating an AEP that contains only one composition with your adjustment layers in it. Save this AEP and change its extension to .aet (which makes it an After Effects template project, preventing you from accidentally saving over it). You can then import this project into other projects and your composition will come in with all of its adjustment layers. Place the imported composition at the top of any compositions you want to affect and click its ‘collapse transformations’ switch.
