I’ve been working for some time on a 25-minute complex slideshow using up to 5 video tracks. When it started getting sludgy, I off-loaded one section as a sequence, but by the time I was ready to delete this section in the main program (so I could use the space to nest the separate sequence), my PC crashed. Now it crashes when attempting any operation on this project, however minimal.
I should point out that some of my animations involve 2 or 3 layers simultaneously of very large PSD pixs. Still, I’ve cleared about 25 gigs of hard drive space, defragged, done just about everything I can, but it still takes five minutes of so for the project to load and now I can’t even do a ‘save as’ for a protection copy. It crashes in the middle of this as well.
What to do?

How large are your PSDs? How much RAM do you have?
Pro uses about 5X RAM of each still. It sounds like you are well into the PageFile just loading your project which would cause things to go very slow and crash.
I would replace finished segments of the timeline with exported DV AVIs. Nested sequences wont help with the RAM issue. -
Thanks, Mike. The PSDs are often in 3K pixels both ways. Huge.
After the problem, I maxed out on memory and got an nvidia card also maxed out with memory. Neither was much help.
Your solution sounds good, presuming I can get it to perform this function before crashing.
If I were to flatten to an AVI, I presume you mean uncompressed? Is there any reason to favour an uncompressed AVI over an Animation MOV?

Any form of uncompressed video should work, I just dont think QT very often.
