Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions Ground reflection

As with my other post I have a new project I want to make and wanna iron some things out.

For part of this project I want to have a 3d box (which I’ve made from 6 3d layers) reflected as if it were on a glass/shiny table. The thing is, I want the box to start maybe 2/3 down the screen and then begin floating up to maybe the top 1/3 of the screen. I imagine this might just be a linear equation between the original box and a copy of it with less opacity. However, I want to make sure it accurately simulates the look of something rising above a surface that is perpendicular to the camera. Any suggestions?

P.S. This is kinda how I want it to look. As the text (box) moves up the reflection moves closer to the camera and down a little, not entirely opposite the way the text moves.

You do not need expressions to accomplish this. It just requires clever pre-composing and collapsed transformations.

    This has been discussed before:

That was my original plan actually. I just kinda assumed that it was faking it and wouldn’t look as good. I thought maybe an expression might work for me but now that I think about it…that makes sense. Thanks.
