    Hi,

I need to create a black video with transparent text. So only the characters from the text are transparent so the underneath video can bleed through the letters.

For this I have an illustrator file with transparent background and white text.
I import this file into after effects. I use this file to Trackmatte option to cut through.

However, when I use a black background I can see a grey outline of the text.

It looks like the track matte uses only the 100% white to cut through, the grey outline of the text remains white.

    here an example :

Whats wrong here? how can i make the r and e disappear and only the white c remains visible?

this is using the alpha inverted mask. all the other masks don’t give me the result I am looking for.

well, that was the reason why i didn’t see it at the beginning. i always had a light bachground which worked just fine. until yesterday when the background was dark and i clearly could see it 🙁

well you got yourself the answer, the letters’ halo are caused by the grey pixels originated by the anti-aliasing. you can make it go away with a small simple choke effect or increasing your alpha contrast. (probably after you pre-compose your matte result).
