We have a greenscreen shoot this Friday — single anchor in a virtual set — some full body walking and talking plus the normal OTS. Doing the normal prep when one of the cameramen suggested rotating the camera 90 degrees… in theory, gaining usable resolution. Anyone ever tried this… or heard of anyone doing this. Compositing in 3D_Studio and/or AfterEffects, so rotating and masking the image is not an issue.

    Thanks,

That’s a not uncommon approach. Less “empty” space means more resolution to work with. Although, it does add a bit of overhead to the greenscreen comp (scale & rotate), along with possible softening due to scaling. If your talent really nails the first take, shoot it both ways.

We do it all the time, both with film cameras and HD. Works great for added resolution, last camera I did this trick with, was the Sony F23

Makes sense. Thanks for the info.
