Green screen software/hardware
Posted by Mark Hayes on April 5, 2006 at 1:16 amI have some greenscreen footage shot on SDX900. I tried using FCP 5.0 but results are less than satisfactory.
Is After Effects the way to go here or do I need something like Ultimatte?
Can anyone make any recommendations?
Thanks.

April 5, 2006 at 3:37 amWe’re kind of partial to “Ultimatte”. Been using it for hundreds of “green screen” interviews. Had good results in FCP 4.5 then when 5.0 came along, it got broken! Good news is that the same plug in works with After Effects. So, we altered our workflow to do the green screens in AE. They’re absolutely perfect.
Another high end option would be SHAKE, which offers distributed rendering.
Hope this helps.

April 5, 2006 at 2:01 pmMotion can do a good job as well if you have the studio. You can combine the Primatte with several other tools like the matte choker for some pretty good results and great interaction with FCP.

April 5, 2006 at 2:38 pmHow does Motion handle green screening? I rarely use it,but
if there’s a green screen function then I just might start
to become a fan.-Matt
