“Green Screen” on Program/Source Monitor Issue
Recently, I have been having a problem where during the middle of an edit the program and source screens will go to green. When I say “green screen” I don’t mean the traditional sense of the phrase, where you’re trying to key out green.
I believe it is both a Premiere, file type, and Quicktime problem all tied into one as when I view the files in finder the thumbnail and the video is green as well. However, when playing them in VLC seems to work…
I was wondering if this is a common issue people have or if there are any solutions?
A temporary solution I found is just restarting the entire computer but I’m looking for a more permanent fix.

My specs are as follows: macOS Mojave version 10.4, iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015), 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, memory: 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, and graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M380 2048 MB.

Other forums I’m on, users point to a GPU problem when this pops up. There are a lot of Windows users out there who need to update their GPU drivers. You might make sure there isn’t an update available that didn’t get installed alongside Mojave.

Hi there,
I updated my system OS and it still didn’t work– got the “green screen” again.
It seems to play back .mov files fine but .mp4 files are green both in Premiere AND Quicktime, unfortunately.
Any other solutions would be appreciated, thanks!

Where did these files originate from?
If VLC can play them fine, I’m betting you could try transcoding them using Handbrake. I’m guessing that AME would do the same as PPro. Handbrake has some really good Production Presets that would keep a higher quality file. And it might be able to “repair” any issues the file is having.
