Are there any tips when shooting green screen footage in an environment full of green (grass & trees)

Let’s say I have a green screen set up at the park, on the grass. The shot is locked.

I’d like to key out the green screen, but keep the grassy foreground intact.

I know you can key out the screen (which will key out a lot of grass, trees, etc as well), and then create a layer with the original footage on top, with a mask…

I’m just wondering if there’s some other (better) way of dealing with green screen on green grass. Also, if the camera were not locked….i’d have to deal with having to motion track mattes, or deal with a bunch of roto, ya?

Any workflow, AE settings, or onset tips to avoid problems down the line. Is there some obvious thing i’m missing here.

    Thanks,

    Dean

If you haven’t shot yet, then shoot with chorma-key blue.

I know that’s kind of a “duh” thing but it’s totally an option.

I find this a rather strange Q. The idea of shooting with a greenscreen is so that you can place your subject in front of another environment. Why don’t you go shoot somewhere else and then composite both shots in post?

“garbage matte” i.e., you mask off the area outside your greenscreen, so that it is not affected by the keyer. And, yeah, use blue if you can, just for easiest…
