  • Green Screen Band Vid – 1080i or 720p?

Posted by Ryan Stone on September 16, 2008 at 8:32 am

    Hello everyone,

I’m using a Canon XL-H1 to shoot a band against a green screen. Has anyone gone down this road before and have a) any general tips, and b) can anyone suggest which is the better frame rate to shoot at? I’ll be editing in After Effects.

    Thank you,

    Ryan

    First…

Edit in AE? why not use an an editing program? Otherwise it’s like trying to work in your garden from a stepladder…awkward.

    Second…The XL H1 is 1080 only.

You can shoot in “F” mode to create a progressive image at 30, 25, or 24 depending on where you’re shooting.

For color keying, and most compositing functions that I can think of, progressive is easier to work with.

The XL H1 is HDV, unless the signal is captured HD-SDI.

you’ll just be doing thr effects in AE, not editing in it.
I just shoot what is needed in cases like this. No need to make things hard.
