green screen – 24Padv versus 29.97
I’m working on a green screen production shooting with a Panasonic DVX100B and editing with FCP 5.1.2. I’m aware of the challenges of getting good results with green screen when shooting with DV. I’ve purchased DV Garage’s DV Matte and had some pretty decent test results. My question is which frame rate should give me a better quality chromakey, shooting in 24P advanced or shooting in 29.97. I would like to use 24Padv for a film like appearance but I don’t want to give up quality. My way of thinking is that 29.97 will give me more frames of information and as a result a cleaner edged chromakey.
Any input would be welcome. Thnx.

Actually it’s the opposite. 24p would give you only progressive frames which key much easier than the sawtooth edge of interlaced frames you get in 29.97. So I’d suggest shooting 24pA and editing and compositing at 23.98 for highest quality. I show all in my DVD. 🙂
