I am using green screen tech for first time. subject matter is classical musician in a recital like setting. it’s a simple tripod setup; editing (zooms, pans) done later in final cut. It occurred to me that these edits would make subject seem to shrink or enlarge, with a virtual background. Do I need to proportionately edit green screen footage? And how to do it realistically.

    Thank’s Ray

Start with your footage and the background image that is going to be keyed at 100%.

When you change the scale and/or position of the footage, you need to also change the sale and/or position of your background image.

By doing this, you will not see any shrinking or enlarging.

Select both tracks and make it a compound clip. Then any scaling or re-positioning you do acts globally. To take the shot to the next level, though, you will want to simulate the focus changes when depth-of-field is short. In wide shots, the background is relatively sharp. In the re-cropped tighter shots, that backdrop should get some extra blurriness; use the gaussian blur filter on it as you also scale it up independently. This should be a subtle difference, but it markedly improves the illusion of a real world camera move.

thank you for this second level technique. should there be any concern by using 2 cameras on initial video at different angles or one camera closer than another ? esp when dissolving between cameras? thanks Ray
