    Gray channel

    I have a photo that has only a gray channel. I want to colorize
    this photo but so far no matter what I choose the color defaults
    to gray. Is there a way around this?

    Image> Mode> RGB
    then you can use a Hue Saturation adjustment layer to colorize it.
