  • Gravity creating vibration in Thinking Particles

    Hello all…

Desire: To have a group of pills (TP) to fall realistically using gravity, pills would collided with a floor plane (deflection) bounce a couple of times then come to a rest.

What works: The pills are falling nicely, they rotate and hit the deflector and bounce twice then come to a rest.

Problem: After the second bounce they start vibrating in a regular pattern just above the deflector.

What I’ve tried: I shut everything off isolating only the necessary bits and determined the gravity is fighting with the deflector causing some type of unrest position in the particles. I have tried working around the issue by timing the gravity and placing a freeze on the objects over time. They all look un-natural and forced.

Help: Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

pass the particles to a new group at the second bounce and pass that group to a PFreeze node – or maybe just activate a PFreeze at a certain age if the particles are consistent enough in their timing. Something like that, can’t test at the moment.

Thanks Brian…I tried your suggestion which also allowed me to shift gravities as well as freeze. However I still get the vibration or I end up freezing some of the particles in mid air. The idea of the project was to have the pills bounce naturally then come to a rest meaning they would not be in-sync with one another.

There must be a way of simulating the reality of something falling to the floor. This vibration glitch is very annoying and makes the whole project useless. Anyways if anyone has any ideas it is worth solving. I think this kind of exercise would be a good tutorial for Creative Cow.

    Thanks in advance!!
