    I’ll describe the scene. A sphere rolling across a field of grass. Camera is zoomed in close in the undergrowth. Sphere rolls towards camera knocking and bending the grass as it goes.

    Originally I animated every last blade of grass (I hear a gasp) and it worked perfectly. I’m revisiting the project now as my computer can actually handle the project and not take days to render the thing off and even load the thing.

    I have been playing with dynamics and soft bodys/rigid bodies. I was wondering how the best way in peoples opinion would be to sort this scene out as I like the effects that soft bodies have.

    I just cant get the soft body (spline with sweep nurbs) to react to the rigid body (the sphere) – im very new to dynamics as opposed to the modelling side – so i’m probaly doing something wrong. I know it may be cheeky but if someone can come up with a way and let me see the scene they created I can go from there.

    Thanks in advance

    Sorry no examples (no time right now) but I think you need to make your grass editable. Dynamics needs polys to work with.

    Yep thought that, but when I have made the object editable and I apply dynamics to it, the model implodes and explodes at the same time. I can make it work perfect for a simple object like a square or sphere but models like a cylinder do this implode/explode thing. Its as though the model isnt classed as solid and each surface hits the other and goes wrong.

    Im probaly doing something worng with this side of things, I think I might be able to do this if I could sort the model side of things.

    Thanks in advance.

    try using c4d clothhide….
    grass = soft springy cloth
    ball = very rigid cloth
    floor = very rigid cloth

    Just make sure your gravity on the floor is 0.

    Dynamics is a really cool part of c4d — but I avoid it at all costs because the calculation time is way too long. Cloth is much faster and you can use it for a ton of things. It works very well with metal objects and stuff bending too….

    Wow another totally different approach. Will give this one a go aswell. Will conquer this scene

    one more thing

    make sure your grass is are flat polygons —- don’t give them any depth.
    use a clothnurbs tag to give them depth or else they will collide within each other.
