Just out of curiosity, how does something like a GTX 260 compare to a Quadro 4800? (It costs just over $200.)https://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4683600&CatId=3585
Thanks.

Hi Norman, While those cards use the same GPU chip, there are some other hardware differences and the drivers are very different and it’s the capabilities of the drivers that you are paying for. While the GTX 260 will work, it just won’t work as efficiently as the Quadro FX 4800. I would love to see a head-to-head comparison of these cards with a GPU accelerated NLE. It would be great if a $200 GeForce card could give us smooth AVCHD playback or real-time rendering. I just haven’t heard any manufacturer say that yet. They always use expensive Quadros when they demo. 🙁
Here is a link to a PDF file on NVIDIA’s site that explains the differences between Quadro and GeForge.

When I tried the demo it seemed to work. It wasn’t enough of a boost to make me spend $99 on it. I don’t know what the deal is other than it was too much money for too little function for me.
