For Macs, working with FCP and Motion…

Does anyone know the best contenders for Graphics Cards?

    I’ve been seeing:
ATI Radeon HD 3870 and ATI Radeon X1900 XT

    What’s the latest?
    Any websites that compare?

    Thank you much!
    Ralph

Excuse the brevity – this gets asked a lot. Get the 3870 for Motion – even the stock 2600 was better than the 1900..

[Ralph Chaney] “So many options and new releases,”

for PCs, maybe, who knows? but on the Mac, there are really only two cards worth having and one of them is more than $2,000 so it’s not an option for may of us. That leaves the 3870 as the only viable player. Today. Just make absolutely certain you get the correct card. There are like 50 different “3870” cards on the market, all kinds of colors.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    HI,

    Regarding
“There are like 50 different “3870” cards on the market, all kinds of colors.”

I assume the one(s) that are for MAC? I see there is a “Saphire” that has the ATI Radeon chip. Is that one of the candidates?

As I look around I see a number of brands that all use the ATI chip. These may all be for PC…? Do you know how this all works… different manufacturers dcan use the ATI chip…?

Is it better to buy from ATI…?

Thanks… lots of questions that come from not knowing how the cards come to be. I’m glad in this case that there are fewer cards for Mac

BTW, there is talk of a new model coming “soon”, a Radeon 4870, according to MacRumors.

    Thank you much!
