I have just had Adobe Premiere shoved down my throat after 13 years on an AVID. not happy to say the least. But it is what it is and Im stuck with it.

We are running CS4 and the problem (one of many) I am having is trying to import graphics cleanly into the system. I have tried PNGs TGAs JPGs and even the native PSD files all to no avail. The JPGS and TGAs come in with no alpha channels yet I am trying to to save them with the transparency. I have always used PNGs in most all of my graphic work and have had no problem. Are there several extra steps (as it seems to be with everything Premeire) that i have to go through to get the graphics in. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Richard,

First let’s take Jpeg out of the picture, no possible alpha channel in that format.

Now, as long as your PSD file has an alpha channel or transparency, that should be translated correctly into Premiere. The same goes for PNGs.

Can you confirm that these are 8 bit RGB files?

You can also right click on the file in the project panel, choose interpret settings and check that the Alpha channel is not set to ignore.

    Hi Richard,

Can you email me one of those pictures (Vince [at] kaptis.com), or post one of the pictures in question as a file?

    Richard,

We are on CS5 here, but there shouldn’t any difference. It imports fine with the logo on the top track, it shows transparency all around.

Do you mind posting your sequence settings?

    Is the background showing black?
