can anyone shine any illumination on this problem i’m having….

I have an animated logo that goes on every ad we do. Its been sent to me as a tiff sequence. It has a built in alpha channel. If i put the graphic into Shake and overlay it on the video it works perfectly every time. I tried rendering it out as a quicktime (animation, millions+) so i could use it in FCP. Whenever i try use it as an overlay in FCP there is an ugly black line around the logo, and the semi transparent flare effect is lost also.

It looks like some thing to do with premultiplication but i have no idea how this is treated in FCP – the manual has no mention either.

So i tried to create an Image Sequence using Quicktime Pro, but for some reason i will only use 3 frames out of 125.

Okay, thinks I, i’ll try Motion 2next….so import an image sequence, and this time its entirely black. I cannot find a way to see the image at all. However, if i double click the file it’ll give me the option to see it in a viewer, and then i can see the image.

what on earth is going on here??
I can (and do) use Shake to add this logo, but there are times when it would be quicker just to drop it on in FCP without all the extra work involved.

any ideas what i’m doing wrong here?

    thanks

Vol 3 of the manuals, page 371 and 372. Try these options and see if it’s what you want.

If you’re seeing black edges then you need to change the Alpha type to “Black” in FCP.

yeah, i tried those and the problem persisted. I think the file might be corrupt in some way…..just before leaving work i did re-render a new version and tried it in Motion and it worked, once i told it the right alpha type.

    thanks guys.
